Alpha Gamma Chapter Herstory

For Beta women, serving and educating through our diversity does not end at the undergraduate level. The Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Alumnae Association of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was chartered as the first Alumnae Chapter outside of the organization’s headquarters in New York City on August 1, 2004. Blossoming into one entity, Dori Mornan, Amanda Crane, Debora Freitas-Lopez, Erica Warner and Ariana Curtis sought to improve the DC metro area through service, dedication, and hard work. Since this Chapter was chartered without an active undergraduate entity in the immediate area, most of the sisters who are members of Alpha Gamma Chapter have chosen to move to the metropolitan Washington, DC area or participate in the alumnae membership intake process through this Chapter.

Our Chapter has welcomed close to 100 sisters from all across the country to the metropolitan Washington, DC area since our charter was granted in 2004. Our Chapter reach is about 60 miles and includes areas as far north as Baltimore to as far south as Fairfax, VA. Our sisters' professional accomplishments span across many fields including education, public health, international relations, real estate and law enforcement. Eighty percent of our sisters have Master's degrees and we are particularly proud of our sisters who have earned terminal degrees such as a PhD, including one sister with a joint Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Public Health.

Our Chapter and Individual Sister Awards include:

  • 2004 Debora Freitas-Lopez awarded Jessica P. Roman Award for Dedication and OPBSI’s Image Award for Outstanding Service to NBOD
